Kinja'd!!!

Sup y’all! To recap from the last post, my dad recently purchased and old AF desk that used to belong to a jeweler or jewelry repairman. He has found a bunch of neato things in the drawers including a pocket watch from the previous post. Now it turns out there is a bunch old packet watches in that mofo.

Here is another that lools neato. Heavy AF. Not sure if it’s worth fixing. It ticks and the arms work but at least from initial inspection, it will need a second hand. Maybe a good cleaning? Idk. Maybe leave it alone.

Check with an expert before cleaning anything. I’ve watched too many episodes of T he Antique s Roadshow where people lose all the va lue from an object by cleaning it.

That’s a classic. Reinstalling a hand is easy, but you’ll probably get charged quite a bit for it on account of that being an older Omega. At least get that second hand removed. If it comes in contact with the other hands you’ll end up stripping out the gears in the movement.

I was taught how to repair watches by a guy from Monterrey, Mexico. I was going to go to Chiapas and work on his sister’s farm and learn Spanish back in the day, but then I got married and the cartel wars kicked into high gear.  Still itching to get down there.

If you like it, get it repaired, it has some value.  Good brand and the case is coin silver.  Replacing hands is not a big deal.  If you're looking to part with it, I bet it's worth a nice little sum too.

That’s freaking awesome! Had they fallen down into the desk itself or were the drawers just not emptied?

Here’s a reference for price point; $425. Your case is more heavily tooled, not sure how that and your face being better affects value. .

For starters, y ou could clean the silver part of the case .

Cleaning the movement is not recommended if you don’t know what you are doing and it is not only missing the seconds hand but also the balance wheel jewel ( antichoc were not invented yet ) and its plate and screws so its definitely not advised to run it before its fixed (not to mention that it most probably need to be serviced (oiled and cleaned) .

Being an Omega with IMO a nice patina it still has some value but it might not be huge eithe r, in it’s current condition i would say it might be between 3 0€ and 20 0€ (i am definitely not a pocketwatch expert) .

For example, this one (it’s not the exact same model) is in working condition and in better shape with only a broken glass for 183 €.

And this one is in better overall condition, working, serviced and sold by a watchmaker for 349€.

That's excellent, quite like a Roman numeral dial.

The movement looks similar to a Omega 12" Hunter   :

Searching for “Omega Hunter” wi e lds interesting results on similar pocketwatches.

An evolution of the movement w ith additional jewels is listed on this page as 56-5 33674 :

I find it also similar in design to the Omega 100 ( 26.5) pocketwatch movement (not that it’s of any interest for the current topic ) :

And also similar to the way smaller Omega 625 i got in my De Ville (not a picture of mine) :

You should absolutely bring this to a pro. I was expecting it to be a “oh some guy found an old American- made pocket watch and thinks he hit the jackpot” but that clearly is not the case here.

I would probably get it fixed and keep it. A timepiece I would never be able to otherwise afford at a fraction of the price, and it’s not a super high maintenance item after it was restored so it won’t depreciate too fast . No brainer for me

But  Don’t fuck with it on your own. The ceramic face is in pretty stellar condition, if you get hand oils on there it can stain, if you use cleaning agents it can cause it to spiderweb or crack. Trust this one to the pros.
